Packing Tips for Moving House

If you’re planning on moving house, the most important thing to complete first is probably the packing. Some house removals companies provide consumers with packing boxes and packing paper, but if they haven’t then go ahead and make sure all the materials are available before you start. You don’t want to waste time by starting to pack and then realizing that you don’t have enough packing tape or packing paper.

Once you’ve got all the materials ready, you can begin the process. Fragile items such as stemware and wine glasses should not be placed in large boxes – these go in smaller ones. Before you begin placing items into boxes, make sure to put 3-4 sheets of crumpled packing paper as a cushion on the bottom. Wrap the items firmly and securely and make sure to put places upright near the sides of the box and not flat on the bottom. Use extra crumpled packing paper to fill in any gaps or holes in the box – the idea is that you want to minimize movement so that your items are protected during transit in case of unexpected bumps and turns in the road.

Take extra care when packing oil paintings, pictures, and mirrors. Again, use generous amounts of packing paper when placing these items upright into boxes. Never use bubble wrap on oil paintings, as it will become damaged by the plastic.

Make sure the box that you are filling is near where the items are. You need to minimize the time spent by having to travel back and forth. Also, ensure that you completely pack one room before moving on to the next. Skip any items that you think you may be using within the next couple of days before the move. A common mistake is to pack and then realize that you need something at the bottom of the box, and then you spend more effort to unpack everything to retrieve the item.

After a box has been filled, ensure that it is completely sealed with packing tape and marked as to what the contents are. Use a marker to write on the packing tape rather than the box itself, as the box can be re-used in a future move.

With these steps completed, you’re now ready to have the Man and Van come over and collect the boxes. Hopefully, these tips helped, and we here at Man and Van London for House Removals London wish you the very best of luck with your relocation!
